Send us your app quote.
We will tell you what it leaves out.
Ask what a mobile app costs in Sydney and you will get answers between $1,999 and $180,000. Both are real prices for real work. Neither tells you what your app costs, because they are not the same product.
Paste the quote you have been given. Within two business days you get a written read on it: which band it sits in, what the scope language is quietly excluding, and the questions to put back to whoever wrote it. We are not trying to win the job on this page.
Get my quote reviewedThe market is bimodal, so the average is useless
There is no single market. There are three, and they barely compete with each other. Figures researched October 2026 from published Sydney and Western Sydney vendor pricing.
Up to about five screens, weeks rather than months, no integrations. If that is genuinely what you need, pay it. The failure in this band is not the price, it is buying it when you needed the next one.
Real integrations, a multi-month build, something you run for years rather than launch once. Published Sydney median: $22,250.
Sydney rates behind these numbers in 2026: $145–$195/hr React Native, $155–$210/hr iOS, $120–$180/hr blended.
For the record, we publish ours: $18,000 for a first build, $22,000 for the middle tier, $45,000 above that, and from $500 a month to keep one running. That puts our entry figure $4,250 under the median. We would rather say so than have you work it out.
The four things that actually move the number
Scope language is where quotes diverge. These four decide more than anything else, and they are what we read your quote against.
Screen count
Five screens is a different job from twenty-five. Most quotes are implicitly priced on this and most never say so.
Accounts and payments
The moment users log in and money moves you have added authentication, a payments provider, refund handling and a compliance surface. This is the single biggest step change in cost.
Integrations with what you already run
Connecting to Xero, a booking system or a stock database is not a feature. It is a second project, with someone else’s API, someone else’s uptime and someone else’s breaking changes.
Who maintains it after launch
An app is not a website. The operating systems change every year and the stores enforce it. A build with no maintenance line has a hidden expiry date. Add about $6,000 a year before you compare quotes.

You do not need the whole proposal. The headline number, what it says is included, and roughly what you asked for is enough to work with.

Three questions that cost you nothing
Put these to any firm you are talking to, including us. The answers separate an honest quote from an optimistic one faster than a reference check.
“What is excluded?”
A quote that lists only what is included is half a document. Ask what is deliberately out of scope and you will learn more in one answer than in the rest of the proposal.
“What happens when Apple changes something?”
Apple ships a new iOS every year, and periodically a change that stops apps launching until they adopt it. We have seen an app that would not open at all on current iOS. Ask who pays for that, and get it in writing.
“Is cross-platform cheaper here, and show me why?”
Cross-platform is reported to save 30–40% against two separate native builds. So a React Native “from” price quoted above a native one is the wrong way round, and worth questioning.
The useful question is never “what does an app cost”. It is “what does this app cost, and what did you leave out”. Any firm worth hiring will answer the second one without being pushed.
Who we do this for
We are in Bella Vista and most of the work is within an hour of it. If your suburb is below, there is a page explaining what app work in that area usually involves and what it has cost locally.
